New Certificate Program for Museums

FacebookXLinkedInRedditPinterest

Exciting news! We have just published a new Certificate Program, our first in over a decade. We are pleased to announce the addition of the Museum Copyright Management Certificate (MCMC) to our Certificate offerings. Even more exciting, we have just opened up the pre-registration link. This first cohort will be offered for a price of USD $1000 and capped at 30 students.

The curriculum includes seven distinct courses that represent the key topics for those who use, license or need to protect copyright materials within a museum context. They are:

  • An Introduction to Copyright
  • Respecting Indigenous Rights
  • Acquiring Rights and Contracts
  • Managing Copyright in Your Collections
  • Using Third-Party Content and Clearing Permissions
  • Exploiting and Enforcing Rights
  • Copyright Education Strategy

Each topic is a complete eTutorial with text lectures, video components, visual representations, further resources to explore and a self-marking quiz. We have also included discussion questions and assignments throughout to make the course immediately applicable to your everyday work. Students can view the lessons online on a computer or mobile device and also download them in PDF format.

MCMC is a unique and flexible program designed for you to complete on your own schedule, at your own pace. Students will spend an estimated 25 to 35 hours completing all five eTutorials. We highly recommend that students also schedule time (30 to 60 minutes per week) to participate in the optional online discussions. Access to the course content is granted for four months, with the possibility of an extension.

Interested in this exciting new opportunity? Let us know by email!

If you’re working in a museum outside of Canada, we have good news! We are already hard at work on an international version of the course to be released in 2027, and we are currently looking for individuals to test this new version. Testers will be given complimentary access in exchange for their comments and suggestions. Please reach out if you’re interested in this opportunity!
