Graduates Receive Certificates in Copyright Management
Congratulations to the CCM Class of 2015 and a new crew of Copyright Managers. Always a thrill to be part of the ceremony and hand out and shake the hand of each graduate receiving their Certificate in Copyright Management. The certificate program is offered by Special Libraries Association (SLA) and Copyrightlaws.com. This year’s graduates received their certificates in Boston on 13 June 2015. In 2016, the in-person courses and graduation will take place in Philadelphia. About the Certificate in Copyright Management
I developed the 9-course curriculum over eight years ago and 2016 marks our ninth class of graduates. It is a professional development opportunity for information professionals and others from around the world and this year we had graduates from the U.S., Canada and Germany. Each student is required to take 6 online courses and 2 in-person courses to receive their certificate. Although many complete the program in one year, participants have 24 months to complete all the required courses. Participants learn about basic copyright principles, global copyright issues, digital copyright, with an emphasis on managing copyright and digital licensing issues without a lawyer (or sometimes in partnership with a lawyer) and how to teach others about copyright law and legally using content under digital licensing agreements.
The aim of the Certificate in Copyright Management program is to ensure that graduates gain the knowledge, confidence and important tools to handle everyday copyright issues and to be leaders in copyright compliance and education within their organizations.
